Essentials: For Mom

Posted on

This time of the year is busy for Moms and expecting mothers; routines are changing with kids going back to school and more babies are born in September and October than any other time of the year! We’ve rounded up some essentials for Mom to carry you through the season, whether you’re a mother of 2 or a Mom-to-be!

 1. When it comes to maternity wear, you want pieces that are transitional and cater to your changing body, which is why we LOVE Thyme Canada’s new Stork and Babe line! If you read our Baby Moon blog post you’re well aware that the collection is chic, modern and on-trend – we’re frequently seen rocking pieces at the office, showcasing it’s not just for pregnant women! The collection has a classic, luxury appeal, a look seen on many celebrity Moms like Victoria Beckham and Jessica Alba! Here are some of our favourite pieces from the fall collection.

 2. Whether your child is learning to bike, playing soccer or running around the playground, scratches and scrapes are inevitable. One product we suggest all Moms have on hand is Strataderm, a first-aid kit must-have that heals scars and protects wounds! It’s fast-drying, transparent and non-sticky…perfect for little ones!

3. For moms-to-be…did you know that winter months boast the highest conception rates? We recommend Stratamark for stretch mark prevention – with 50-90% of women developing stretch marks during pregnancy, start applying this at the beginning of your pregnancy to keep those pesky marks at bay!

NKPR Fall Favourites

photo-145

Fall is perhaps our favourite season here at the office – there’s TIFF, the buzz of fashion week, new collections hitting the stores – there’s lots to be excited about! We asked the team what they love most about fall – here are our fall favourites!

Cozy sweaters – There’s nothing like unpacking your favourite  fall sweater after months of hibernation. Don’t get us wrong – we love our sundresses and tanks, but sweaters open up new opportunities to layer and play with texture! We’re obsessed with this wool-plaid sweater from boohoo Canada – it’s cozy and right on-trend!

A warm cup of tea – Sometimes it’s the simplest pleasures that make us the happiest! Tea is one of our favourite ways to indulge in fall flavours…maple or pumpkin pie, anyone? DAVIDsTEA’s Pumpkin Spice flavour is the current obsession at the office!

Fall fashion magazines – September marks the release of the largest issues in the magazine industry, and each year we find ourselves counting down the days to the big reveal of who’s gracing what cover! We love previewing the fall sweaters, coats and boots for the season – what trend are you most excited for?

Sweet indulgences – It’s a well-known fact we’ve got a serious sweet tooth at the office, so it only makes sense we’re trading in our froyo for pumpkin-spiced muffins, pumpkin pie and apple cider! After all…they only make an appearance once a year!

Fall makeup – Fall is the time to embrace darker, richer tones! We love this Avon bold red lipstick for day or night – it’s glamorous and embraces our fading tans!

Fashion’s latest muse? Instagram. With 150 million monthly users, designers are turning to their followers for design inspiration, treating consumers like artists and involving them in the creative process. Did you know that Instagram generates 25 times the engagement of other social media platforms? [New York Times]

September is perhaps the busiest time of the year for the fashion industry – from New York to Paris to London to Milan, fashion lovers everywhere are on the edge of their seats to see what’s in store for Spring 2014. In today’s social media landscape, designers are choosing to showcase their runway shows to the public with live streaming.  Another example of how consumers’ role has gained influence and power in the fashion industry – we tuned in to Mulberry at London Fashion Week. It looks like Miley Cyrus may have proven that twerking is working – her infamous VMA performance sparked enormous controversy that landed her more tweets per minute than the Superbowl and 100,000 more Instagram followers within the next day. What do you think – was this a marketing success, or has she lost credibility? [Forbes]

Why are Generation Y’s unhappy? This article provides a lot of interesting insight shedding light on how our attitudes towards our careers and future happiness have changed through generations. Check it out! [Huffington Post]

Hayden Christensen for RW&CO

This just in! Canadian actor Hayden Christensen is adding another creative project to his portfolio: designing menswear! Hayden has designed a Holiday 2013 collection with RW&CO, that which has already received lots of buzz on social media since the announcement this morning. The 20 piece collection – which includes sweaters, coats, pants, knitwear and accessories – has a young, modern look while taking inspiration from Hayden’s time growing up on a farm in Ontario. We can’t get enough of the relaxed, on-trend looks; suspenders, rich colours and patterns, elbow patches, contrasting lapel details… we’ve got a lot of pieces on our radar for holiday gifting, available November 7th! We’re really impressed by Hayden’s design capabilities; as a self-proclaimed appreciator of fashion and design, his passion is evident in the collection. RW&CO worked hand in hand with Hayden, who was fully integrated in every step of the design process – from colour and fabric selection to button detailing, it was a true collaboration encompassing Hayden’s personal style influence and RW&CO’s signature fashion, quality and comfort.

Here’s a preview of Hayden’s designs!

Cocktail Countdown

Posted on

On Wednesday evening the NKPR team attended one of our favourite pre-festival events: The NKPR Cocktail Countdown Presented by SKYY Vodka! This year’s countdown was hosted at The Spoke Club, an elegant respite from the flashing bulbs and red carpets for Hollywood’s elite. Each year media and special guests gather to toast to another exciting film festival and gear up for the glamorous, fast-paced time of the year. We had a great time reuniting with fellow film festival veterans, all while sipping on the new Official SKYY TIFF cocktails (always an exciting unveiling) and indulging in Jelly Modern donuts and Spoke Club risotto! What better way to kick off the festival?

Meet this year’s SKYYxTIFF cocktails: The Grapefruit Garner, Spicy Scarlett and Adam’s Apple (in honour of Jennifer Garner, Scarlett Johansson and Adam Levine of course!)

NKPR celebrates Stork & Babe with a Babymoon!

Posted on

NKPR hosted our first Babymoon last Thursday to celebrate the birth of the latest Thyme Maternity collection, Stork & Babe! We were joined by Moms-to-be and media guests to preview the beautiful collection of runway-inspired pieces set to hit stores this fall. Suffice to say everyone was blown away by the classic, Alexander Wang-meets-Rick Owens line, with lots of guests remarking “I wish this was around when I was pregnant!” Our Babymoon included crave-curing treats (deep fried pickles and make-your-own soft serve ice cream, anyone?), as well as a beautifully presented fashion show, curated by the stylish Liz Cabral! We’ve got our eye on a few pieces ourselves, which is what makes the collection so appealing; the collection is perfect for before, during and after pregnancy!
