With the holidays fast approaching (we can’t believe it’s already almost November!) there’s no better time to try a new hairstyle, fitness regime or pamper yourself with a luxury treatment (mink eyelash extensions or a St. Tropez spray tan, anyone?) Well, lucky for us, Bloor-Yorkville’s annual Beautylicious event is BACK from October 24 – November 3 for its 5th anniversary, with over 50 participating Beautylicious businesses offering an array of hair, spa and health & wellness packages at four “prix fixe” prices: $30, $50, $75 and $125! We’ve got our eye on a few treatments on the Beautylicious menu, including:

1. Brow tinting at The Brow House

2. A St. Tropez spray tan at SITAMAA Day Spa

3. Mink eyelash extensions at Winks Boutique

4. Mani-LUXE at LUX Spa

5. And for the boys…Men’s hot towel straight razor shave at Bode Spa Medi Wellness for Men

We’re also VERY excited about this year’s contest – Bloor-Yorkville is hosting a giveaway of $1500 worth of luxury treatments at some of the neighbourhood’s most luxurious spas, salons and health & wellness businesses. We’ve all entered – who doesn’t love a pampering spa experience?

At NKPR we always strive to be on the cusp of what’s happening and what’s new. After all – our motto is “Don’t just talk. Say something.”  Check out our weekly summary of the latest news, PR updates, social media trends and highlights that are on our radar.

The latest brand to utilize Instagram for charity? P&G. “Give a Plate” campaign encouraged people to share photos of their plates piled high at their Thanksgiving meal. For every shot, the brands donated $5 to Food Banks Canada, resulting in a $27,165 contribution. This is a great example of brands honing in on consumers pre-existing habits, making giving easier than ever. [Marketing Magazine]

Logos – we love them, we reject them…in today’s fashion climate, logos are making a comeback. Street style is showcasing brands in an in-your-face, bold way, with logo-graphic tees, sweatshirts and toques. With today’s social media connectedness, brands are leveraging the ease of consumers to tag their product – when the logo is front and centre, it functions as free press! [Business of Fashion]

CBC has become the first news centre to utilize Facebook’s new tools for TV. The tools will enable CBC to incorporate a real-time feed of public Facebook posts in its broadcasts, and measure engagement around keywords from specific programs. This effectively allows CBC to observe what demographics are tuning into their programs and where the conversation is taking place. [Marketing Mag]

Social media – does it promote or hinder the development and maintenance of relationships? Natasha discusses how social media benefits relationships in her latest blog post at Huffington Post. [Huffington Post]

And lastly…looking for some halloween costume inspiration? Buzzfeed has some fun (and clever) ideas! [Buzzfeed]

Best Buddies Inspires

One of our favourite events during TIFF this year was the annual Best Buddies gala, honouring Founder Anthony Kennedy Shriver. We were incredibly inspired by the non-profit which aims to change the world for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. We were touched to see this inspiring PSA and moving story showcasing the amazing impact Best Buddies has on individuals’ lives and wanted to share it with all of you!

Instagram’s latest competitor? Snapchat is upping the ante with a new feature, Snapchat Stories. The album-like feature allows users to create a photo and video montage with a 24 hour life. Friends can scroll through snap chat albums, giving it a Facebook-like function of sharing activity. [Mashable]

Multi-grain Cheerios and Big Brothers Big Sisters (a charity close to our hearts) are teaming up to raise awareness for Go Girls, an initiative aimed at promoting healthy bodies and healthy minds. This TV campaign takes an anti-diet approach to promoting balance and healthy living in young women, many of which are victims to pro-diet media – such a great initiative. Check out the campaign here! [Big Brothers Big Sisters]

Choosing a career path in your 20s can be a stressful, often daunting process – with so many options, it can be difficult to know where to start. Natasha shares her insights and experience in her latest blog post at The Huffington Post. [Huffington Post]

Today marks International Day of the Girl Child, a day dedicated to raising awareness to the fact that girls across the globe lack equal access to education, healthcare, nutrition, and freedom. To celebrate and support the cause, we recommend watching Girl Rising – an uplifting film centred on the lives of eight inspiring girls from developing countries like Ethiopia, Sierra Leone, Haiti, and India. NKPR Joins The Smooth Movement

Posted on

Screen Shot 2013-10-08 at 1.44.18 PM

Let’s face it: no one likes frequent shaving or waxing. Don’t get us wrong – it’s nice to be smooth and hair free, but given the opportunity most of us would skip the pain and time spent on this annoying yet necessary task. We’ve been introduced to Inhibitif and it looks like our prayers have been answered! A serum applied twice a day for 8 weeks that reduces the prominence and density of hair? Count us in.

So how exactly does the formula work? The serum promises to thin hair in conjunction to regular hair removal, with the end result meaning less frequent hair removal and lasting smoothness. The serum comes in a spray format that you apply evenly on shaved or waxed body areas twice per day for 2 months, or until unwanted hair appears nearly invisible (imagine our excitement). You then reduce usage to 3 times per week to maintain results. We learned that Inhibitif is different from a depilatory, which removes hair temporarily. Inhibitif reduces the apparent rate of hair growth over time so that you have to remove hair less often.

Intrigued, the NKPR team is taking part in the Smooth Movement – an 8 week challenge where we will be tracking our experience and reporting our results. We’ve rounded up a group with diverse hair types, each of us testing out one of the 3 available products for face, body or underarms.

Did you know?

According to Cosmo Magazine, women spend an average of 72 days of their life shaving…ugh! Tell us how you’d spend those 72 days instead for a chance to win Inhibitif and join the #SmoothMovement!

To enter:

1. Follow @inhibitif and @natashankpr on Twitter

2. Tweet @NatashaNKPR and tell us how you would spend those 72 days, whether it be vacationing to Europe, travelling to Asia or catching up on beauty sleep and tag @Inhibitif #SmoothMovement!

Stay tuned for our two week progress update!

NKPR Loves Montreal

Posted on

Whether for pleasure or for work, we’re well-seasoned travellers at NKPR and love sharing our favourite restaurants, hotels, destinations and shops. This week’s feature? For many of us, a home away from home – Montreal!

MUST STAY

The Loews Hôtel Vogue

photo-175

Our go-to place to stay when we’re spending a night or a week in Montreal. We love it for its personalized service and luxury experience. After a recent $10 million renovation,  new suites are filled with vintage Vogue-inspired art and  premium features like a jacuzzi bath, 24 hour room service and spacious closets. We can always count on the Loews Hôtel Vogue for helping us catch up on our beauty sleep – we covet nights spent in the famously cozy beds! On occasion, we’ve also been known to enjoy  in-room pampering and relaxing treatments from the mobile spa, as well as the 24-hour state of the art gym for some early morning workouts!  Last but certainly not least…  the Loews Hôtel Vogue is also conveniently located right across the street from Ogilvy, one of the best spots for Montreal shopping. Need we say more?

MUST DINE

La Société Montréal

photo-168

A welcome addition to the Loews Hôtel Vogue and sister to Toronto’s Bloor-Yorkville hot spot La Société, the chic, intimate atmosphere and central location make it the perfect spot to dine with business partners, clients and friends. We highly recommend indulging at the Oyster Bar to start!

Olive and Gourmando

A local favourite that serves up some of the best paninis we’ve ever had! The menu is fresh and affordable and makes for the perfect afternoon lunch spot (in between shopping trips no less.)

SHOPPING

Maison Marie Saint Pierre

With its convenient proximity to The Loews Hôtel Vogue, this is one of our favourite places to shop in Montreal. The pieces are chic and boast beautiful, streamlined designs in neutral palettes with a European edge – the boutique itself is a must-see for its unique interiors!

Cahier D’Exercices

Another favourite, Cahier D’Exercices features a mix of eclectic and avant garde international runway designers in an ultra-modern space. The unique concept store is located in the heart of Old Montreal (side note: no trip to Montreal is complete without visiting this historic area!)

CULTURE SPOTS

If you’re looking for a scenic workout, running or hiking up Mont Royal is a great way to enjoy the fresh air and features an amazing view of the city!

Fila walks into the Bata Shoe Museum’s exhibit “Out of the Box: The Rise of the Sneaker Culture”

good

On Saturday September 28, 2013 Fila Canada celebrated the introduction of Grant Hill’s 1996 Olympic sneaker into the Out of the Box: The Rise of the Sneaker Culture exhibit at the Bata Shoe Museum in Toronto, which features legendary sneakers from 1860 to present day. It was an exciting, much-anticipated event that celebrated one of our biggest obsessions…shoes!

This iconic Grant Hill II sneaker, which is signed by the basketball legend himself, is the actual sneaker Hill wore in the 1996 Olympic games where he and his American teammates beat out the Yugoslavian team to take home the gold medal! Its other half lives in the Fila Museum in Italy – the country where the historic brand originated in 1911. We’re big supporters of brands with a rich history and proud to see Fila Canada receive this honour.

The event drew an energetic, diverse crowd, including influencers like the former footwear design director for the Jordan Brand and the current founder of Pensole Footwear Design Academy D’Wayne Edwards, hosts of TSNs talk show “1on1” Duane Watson and Will Strickland, co-founders of Toronto Loves Kicks Lee Joseph and Dion Walcott, and many more ‘sneakerheads’.

We always love to hear about unique Toronto events, especially those that celebrate our love of shoes! The exhibit, which was launched in April 2013, is the first in North America dedicated to the history of the sneaker, running now until March 2014!

Check out the video from the party – such a great event!
