My team is pretty healthy and they’re always thinking about new ways to get in shape. Brittany runs half-marathons, Dzeneta spins, Emily is getting into hot yoga, Rebecca and Aimee started an NKPR running clinic, and the whole staff has switched to mini drumsticks (just 110 calories each!). đ And now, maybe we’ll all add trampolining to that list!
At My Best, a school-based childrenâs wellness program founded by AstraZeneca Canada and Physical and Health Education Canada, is joining with Springfreeâą Trampoline to give away one trampoline per week (valued at $1,299) from now until At My Best Play Day on June 9, 2011! Entering the contest is easy, too. Just visit the At My Best Facebook page here and  answer the weekly âJUMP INTO JUNEâ question. The winners will be randomly selected.
For today’s Friday Fun Blog post, we’re celebrating the return of summer and the T-shirt! (There really isn’t a better symbol of warm weather, is there?) I gave my staff a 60-second time limit and this assignment: design your Official T-Shirt for Summer 2011. Here’s what they came up with:
Jordan’s private island getaway and Aimee’s ice cream dream.
Andrea’s tree of life and Heather’s abstract expressionism.
Katy’s wonderful wiener dog and Emily’s weak political statement.
Kaley’s a Queen in cotton and Brittany’s no white stripes.
Rebecca’s “this was supposed to be leopard print” and Jeannette’s rock star tag line.
Laycee’s sunset-hugging palm trees and Kristin’s seeing stars.
Which t-shirt is your favourite? Tweet me @natashankpr
By the way, if you want to get serious about t-shirt design, visit the Fila 100 Anniversary microsite. On it, you’ll find details about the Fila t-shirt design contest with amazing prizes to be won! (The standard is higher than on this blog — FYI! :))

If you’re a regular reader of this blog then you probably know that everyone at NKPR is social media obsessed! And this obsession has only gotten more intense with the launch of our digital media division, NKPRoductions. We spend a lot of time scouring the Web for the latest and greatest in social media tools that will help our clients reach their goals, and help us work more efficiently and creatively. As you can imagine, we’ve amassed quite a collection of fantastic social media resources that we find ourselves using again and again — some you know, some you may not. So here they are, in no particular order….
… NKPR’s Social Media Must-Haves!
Bunmi: Tumblr. It’s a great way to digitally scrapbook ideas. It’s simple to use and you can post anything from images to music.
Katy: Reddit. All the content is user generated, and trends originate on Reddit days before they get picked up by other blogs and news sites.
Brittany: Twitter. Especially print publication feeds. I know what’s going on instantly instead of having to wait for tomorrow’s newspaper.
Heather: They’re all near and dear to my heart, but my latest love is Pinterest. It’s a digital pinboard where you can collect and categorize images. The “social” part is that you can follow, comment on and re-pin images from other people’s boards. It’s an amazing source of inspiration!
Emily:Â LinkedIn. It’s incredibly useful when I’m source-hunting for a story I’m writing.
Thary: Behance. As a creative, this website showcases the best and most up-to-date design work from all around the world. It is an endless supply of inspiration.
Weâre thinking about summer at the office right now… more specifically, we’re thinking about getting our legs ready for all those pretty summer outfits that have been hiding in our closets for too long! Hereâs what leg-baring looks we canât wait to wear:
Andrea – The dress that Brittany wore today is the look that I want for summer:
Emily – This dress from RW&CO.‘s Special Occasions Collection. It’ll look great at all of the summer weddings I have to go to. And just look how amazing my legs look in it!: Continue reading →
The Scotiabank CONTACT Photography Festival is underway and there are so many different exhibitions to choose from! If youâre looking for something uniquely Canadian, I suggest that you check out RED by Caitlin Cronenberg.
The RED exhibition opens on May 5 and runs until May 28 at KWT Contemporary (624 Richmond St W, Toronto). Itâs an amazingly dramatic collection of eight images from the NY Times Canadian Photography Archive that Caitlin has reimagined with salvaged barnwood frames and remote-controlled lightboxes. Trust me, itâs Canada like youâve never seen it before!
On Sunday, myself and a few athletically-inclined members of the NKPR team took part in the Sporting Life 10K Toronto for Camp Oochigeas, an organization that offers a summer camp and year-round programming for children affected by cancer. The atmosphere at the race was electric and so inspiring. There were more than 15,000 runners and walkers out on Yonge Street! The sight alone was something I’ll never forget, but here’s the best part: over $1 million was raised for Camp Oochigeas!
Here are some of my team’s favourite memories from the race…
Heather: “The energy of the crowd — it was a really cool thing to be a part of.”
Kristin: “The fact that I ran the entire race, which I didn’t expect to do.”
Sarah: “Standing at the starting line when the excitement of the crowd was growing.”
Brittany: “Crossing the finish line in a huge crowd and hearing hundreds of chip timers beep at the same time.”
Jordan: “Running with 15,000 people! I didn’t have an iPod so it was amazing to listen to thousands of feet running around me.”
Aimee: “Seeing the crowd as I approached the finish line. It was so inspiring.”
Lauren: “It was my first 10K and I ran 9K of it!”
Here are my favourite photos from the day (some were taken inside our pre-race meet-up spot: Kiehl’s Since 1851’s Yonge and Castlefield location):
My team didnât know I was doing this, but I was taking notes the whole time they were watching (and clapping, and squealing and colour-commentating). So here it is: the stuff I overheard my team saying about the wedding of Will and Kate… I mean Catherine:
Rebecca: Victoria Beckham! She looks cute! Those heels are insane!
Andrea: Whatâs up with the hats?
Jordan: (re: Princess Eugenie) Oh no! That hat is like a carousel on the front of her head.
Rebecca: I think Victoria Beckham looks kind of like Natasha here. Itâs totally her look.
Bunmi: (re: Catherine’s wedding dress) Ooh! So great!
Emma: At first I thought it was a bit plain, but now I think itâs really pretty.
Rebecca: Sheâs thinking, âwhat am I getting myself in to?â
Kristin: Imagine just being this normal girl and then being thrust into this?
Bunmi: I could totally handle that.
Dzeneta: Whatâs with all the waving though? They donât need to wave so much.
Last night was the launch event for the new Monika Schnarre Eyewear Collection from Optiq. It was held at The Spoke Club in downtown Toronto and the space was packed with loads of peopleâmedia, bloggers, friends. It was so much fun because we all got to try on the glasses, and everyone was live-Tweeting about it and sharing their photos! Monika and Optiq President Joe Nadler spoke to the crowd and then they showed us a behind-the-scenes video of the making of the new ad campaign. Monika looked beautiful (of course) and was such a gracious and fun hostess! The collection was a big hit with all the guests — there are so many amazing styles so everyone found the perfect pair.
And the food! There was a candy table full of sweets and mini cupcakes in the colours of the Collection (brown and pink), and bright pink cocktails called “The Monika.” How great is that? I didnât bring any treats back to share with you (sorry!) so check out these sweet photos instead:
Kiehlâs Since 1851 opened its first free-standing store in the Burlington/Hamilton area last Wednesday in the Mapleview Centre! I was there at 5am for the CHCH Morning Live segment with Lori (watch it here) so I definitely needed Kiehl’s Abyssine Eye Cream! The caffeine in the formulation gave my skin the jolt it needed!
The Mapleview location features Kiehlâs signature apothecary aesthetic with a modern feel that includes a 1949 Indian Arrow motorcycle and a Product Testing hub where customers can experiment with products. BTW, it’s also Kiehl’s 160th anniversary this year, and you can experience that rich history at the Mapleview location through the vintage photographs and mementos that are featured throughout the space. The store also proudly displays a paddle from Camp Oochigeas, an organization supported by Kiehlâs that offers free programs for hundreds of children affected by cancer each year.
If you live in the Hamilton area, not only should you visit the store, but you should enter to win “The Ultimate Celebration Party” too! It’s a fantastic prize package — visit CHCH.com and click on the Kiehl’s banner for all the details! (BTW, the contest closes on April 28, so get your entry in!)
Here are some photos from the store’s opening:
Enjoy your new Kiehl’s, Hamilton!
