Fashion Week (best of)

Posted on

It’s been an incredible two weeks of fashion in Toronto! Here are some of my team’s favourite looks from the official fashion week (LG Fashion Week: March 28 – April 2) and the unofficial fashion week (March 21-25)…

Lauren: This wine tone-on-tone look from Pink Tartan. I love the contrast between the military silk top and wild-feathered skirt. The not-so-sweet black accessories toughen up this girly ensemble.

Emily: I don’t usually go for the mismatched look (my socks always match my purse) but this Comrags outfit really speaks to me. I’ve been desperate for a unique blue dress for spring and this one—with a cool neckline and fitted waist—is just perfect. (photo: George Pimentel/AFP/Getty Images)

Rebecca: Philip Sparks! I love a lady in a bowtie! (photo: torontoisfashion.com)

Brittany: My favourite is the Basch by Brandon collection. I love the bright colours and silk designs. The collection is modern, but not too outrageous, so the pieces are totally wearable. (photo: Tyler Anderson)

Heather: Never mind the boy scout belt and popped collar, sometimes it’s the less overt details that make the difference (namely, the hot pink piping and gorgeous print on this Pink Tartan coat’s lining).

Kristin: I almost choked on my all-natural FIJI Water when I saw this fab outfit at the Lucian Matis show at the Design Exchange! This deconstructed corset dress paired with rhinestone tights is the epitome of luxury! Also luxurious were the VIP gift bags filled with lots of makeup, hair products, chocolate (Yum!) and FIJI Water! (photo: Kyriakos)

Sarah: I’m not in the mood for f/w so my favourite look is this one by Shan. (photo: Stan Behal/QMI Agency)

Philip Sparks and Greta Constantine were my favourites! So many amazing pieces! What was your #1 look from Fashion Week? Tweet me at @natashankpr.

Wild night out!

PROM at the ROM was such a great time! If you were following my Tweets on Saturday night you know that I stepped outside of my usual comfort zone and got a little “wild” in a black AND white Cavalli zebra print dress! The ROM really knows how to throw an incredible party so there were countless memorable moments! Here are a few of my favourites:

  • Hanging out with some of my NKPR gals: Bunmi, Lauren, Kristin, Nicole and Andrea
  • My Cavalli dress!
  • All the pretty shoes and outfits the girls were wearing (and the boys, too)
  • Food from Presidential Gourmet — love them!!
  • The old school music! I felt like I was at my high school prom, only no one asked me to dance… except for some strange dude wearing a sequined bird mask and a feather head dress. Yikes!
  • Did I mention my Cavalli dress? 🙂

Another fantastic part of the event was Stila’s “Touch-up Camp” — a booth where Stila artists gave guests makeup refreshers throughout the night. It was a huge hit! Also, to keep their skin looking amazing after the PROM, VIP guests took home Stila’s One Step Correct.

Did you go to the PROM? What was your favourite part of the night? Tweet me @natashankpr

Juno-worthy fashion tips

Peanut butter and chocolate aside, it’s hard to think of a better combination than fashion and music! If you want to witness the two come together in serious style, be sure to watch the Junos this weekend as Royal Wood walks the red carpet in his favourite RW&CO. suit! Here’s how the Canadian musician—and Songwriter of the Year nominee—makes the most of this go-to formal look and how you can, too.

Royal Wood’s Top Five Suiting Tips

1. “A perfect suit is all about fit, so stay away from boxy jackets. I tend to go for a slim, modern cut—it’s just more flattering.”

2. “Jacket length matters. I know mine is just right if my knuckles reach the bottom of my jacket when my arms are hanging at my sides.”

3. “When it comes to shirts, your sleeves should just peek out from beneath your jacket sleeve. Good style aside, anything longer distracts me when I play piano.”

4. “Make sure your pants fit snuggly in the hip area, even without a belt. Think of your belt as an accessory, not something that keeps your pants up.”

5. “You can’t go wrong with black, gray and navy. They’re flattering and elegant, which is what wearing a suit is all about. Plus, these colours likely go with everything that you already have in your closet.”

For more insight into Royal Wood’s music and style, click here to watch a really beautiful behind-the-scenes short, A Day in the Life of Royal Wood.

Enjoy the Junos everyone!

Celebrate World Water Day with Teva

Posted on

Today is World Water Day! If you haven’t heard of it, World Water Day is an initiative that grew out of the 1992 United Nations Conference on Environment and Development and has since inspired countless awareness campaigns and led to real positive change in waterways around the world.

In honour of World Water Day, Teva, the global adventure brand, is kicking off an amazing campaign today called ‘Pair for a Foot.’ The international program will help protect one linear foot of global waterways for every pair of Teva shoes and sandals sold in 2011. Globally, Teva estimates ‘Pair for a Foot’ will help preserve 4.3 million feet of waterways this year alone!

In Canada specifically, ‘Pair for a Foot’ will support Teva’s longtime partnership with Waterkeeper Alliance as its local chapters work to create safe, clean watersheds. With Teva’s support, several major water-preservation projects will get underway this summer, including Lake Ontario’s first beach preservation tour, anti-polluter patrols of the Fraser River in British Columbia, and water quality sampling in the Ottawa River. (Watch the ‘Pair for a Foot’ video here.)

I know I’ll be picking up some new Tevas this spring! What are you doing to celebrate World Water Day? Tweet me!

NKPR prom faves!

It’s the official unofficial fashion week here in Toronto, which means my evenings are going to be packed with amazing fashion! It also means that I’m going to try and avoid eating too much junk food. There’s nothing like watching ridiculously beautiful models walk around in gorgeous clothes to keep me motivated! 🙂 This week of shows opens tonight with Philip Sparks and closes on Friday with Greta Constantine… I know LG Fashion Week (the official official Fashion Week) takes place from March 28 – April 2, but Philip Sparks and Greta Constantine are my favourites! I’m so excited for their shows!

Another reason to skip dessert and hit the treadmill? It’s PROM at the ROM this weekend! In honour of this amazing event, I asked my team to answer the following high school prom-related question: What was your favourite prom song and why? Here’s what they said:

Andrea: “In Your Eyes” by Peter Gabriel. If I had stayed for the dancing portion of the prom I would have liked to hear that song. Remember Say Anything with John Cusack holding up the ghettoblaster for Ilone Skye? Yum.

Bunmi: I didn’t go to Prom, but I made my younger sister stand on a chair and slow dance with me to Billy Vera and the Beaters’ “At This Moment.”

Brittany: “Gold Digger” by Kanye West. Because my date was rich! 🙂

Lauren: “Graduation Song” by Vitamin C. It’s so cliché but it pulls on my nostalgic heart strings every time!

Emily: “Jump Around” by House of Pain. Because I could jump around AND fake rap. (And no, I didn’t have a date. How did you know?)

Heather: As part of my anti-top 40 campaign, I saved my moves for songs my parents would have danced to at their prom. (The Beatles and The Rolling Stones, of course).

André: “Thriller” by Michael Jackson. I didn’t go to prom, but this song would be pretty great if everyone danced it all synchronized.

Kaley: “Yeah” by Ursher. It’s so yeah! AND it reminds me of my Cancun grad trip which was pretty… fun.

What’s your favourite prom song memory? Tweet me about it.

There’s a great networking event coming up that I want to share with you. It’s in Toronto on March 24 and it’s being put on by the eWomenNetwork. Mary Morassutti, eWomenNetwork’s Managing Director for Toronto GTA, will be talking to Murray about three main points:

– The critical strategies to accelerate your income and achieve financial freedom.

I hope to see you there!

Jay Leno's new Gogo!

This is so cool… I just had to share! On March 3, actress Bailee Madison (star of Bridge to Terabithia) was a guest on the Tonight Show. (She was promoting her movie Just Go With It.) After the show, Bailee presented Jay with his very own Gogo! It looks just like him!

How amazing is that? His very own personalized Gogo! I want one, too! 🙂

Bailee is such a great partner for Gogo’s Crazy Bones! She’s helping JDNA (the Gogo’s North American distributor) with a huge One Million Piece Giveaway through Walgreens stores in the US. And get this: through JDNA, Bailee is donating $10,000 to the Starlight Foundation in celebration of the Giveaway!

Wouldn’t you want your very own Gogo? Tweet me at @natashankpr.

It’s time for PROM!

PROM at the ROM is almost here! This year’s party is on Saturday, March 26 and the theme is Into the Wild. The whole night is inspired by the beauty of life on earth and the ROM’s natural history collections. And get this: you can dress the part! Take fashion cues from rainforest trees, the ocean, the desert… Think feathers and faux fur like cheetah or zebra.

Hmm… I’m going to have to track down an all-black animal-inspired outfit. Maybe something panther-esque?
:)

Tickets are on sale until 3 p.m. on March 25! Visit www.rom.on.ca/prom for more info. and to buy your tickets.

See you at the PROM!
